maylands - buddhist temple
mayland's one real landmark is the second thing i ever drew on the map (the first being my house), which is why the drawing is really shonky and bad.
most temples in perth are unassuming structures built from sandstone or midland brick, but this buddhist temple actually looks like a buddhist temple.
appearances don't matter much in buddhism, but this temple is really quite handsome - it looks like something from a cartoon version of ancient china, so big and bizarre looking next to the liquourland that the first time you pass it, you think you're dreaming.
despite being a follower of buddhism and having lived next door to the temple for several years, i have never been inside. i always drive 20 minutes up the road to the one in nollamara. one day i will attend a meditation session and update this page.
