maylands - bricklands
the pavement, the pillars, the walls, the tiles, the windows - everything in this housing estate is made from the most romantic mud brick.
my auntie margie moved here in 2001 after seperating from her rude biker husband gary. because her kids were the same age as me and my brother, we visited this place a lot, and i remember the whole atmosphere of bricklands being silent and sleepy. it still feels the same.
my friends laurent and drew lived here in the late 2010s. they are the two singers of the band didions bible, the only rock band in perth i care to see.
brooke from uni also lives here. she paints good pictures of wolves. when i see her paintings i think of the bonnie prince billy song that goes "o why cant i be lovvvvved for what i am. a wolf among wolves, and nottttt as a man... among men."
me and john and cousins nick and lani had good times in this brickland estate.
one time john and nick, both 5 years old, were pissing under the mulberry tree out the front and john, a cheeky bugger, decided to aim his stream at nick. nick then got him right back and they came into the house, drenched and crying. mum and aunt margie got really angry.
i remember nick also had the entire collection of snoopy mcdonalds toys and i was really jealous.
bricklands is eerie but peaceful. if there was ever a time in my life where i was a sweet and peaceful child, it was this time of being 7.
