maylands - caz and mike's house
caroline and michael lived in a green-roofed shotgun shack on ferguson road. the site is now a heritage site.
they had many interesting ornaments and various animals. they had quails out the back, hermit crabs out the front, and in the living room, a skittish white rabbit named zeff.
i liked playing board games here, but i always overstayed my welcome. caz would often get fed up with my loitering: "go home ben!"
one day caz and mike had a disagreement and mike promptly moved into my basement, breaking their lease. although my house was only a few hundred metres up the road, mike ordered a moving van, but when the van came, mike hadn't yet packed up his things, so the moving man charged him extra.
i really miss this era of maylands social life, but then i remember all the interpersonal conflicts. a john k sampson album i listened to a lot at the time encaptualates my thoughts:
I don't mean to miss the good old days
The good old days were mostly bad.
at the same time, i am glad to have a period of good old days. i do miss them.
