maylands - doggy daycare facility
for a few years there was a big industrial building with nothing inside it. it was here you could leave your dog for the day.
before it was a doggy daycare, it was the mephan ferguson pipeworks factory.
mephan ferguson is the guy who more or less created the town of maylands by making it an industrial town. in this factory they forged all the giant pipes for c.y. o'connor's golden pipeline.
c.y. o'connor was an engineer who first built the fremantle harbour and then in the first few years of the 20th century, constructed a 600km long aquaduct from the mundaring weir to the goldmine town of kalgoorlie.
all the papers said it wouldnt work and he was wasting money. he got near the end of the project and the water wasnt coming through. he was so tired and upset that he rode his horse into the sea and then shot himself in the head and the horse kept walking into the sea until it drowned.
