maylands - girl versions
one time walking to coles along sherwood street, me and tim saw the female versions of ourselves. one was tall and gangly with a rectangle nose and gold hair. the other was small and tanned and wore a little green cap. they were walking towards us and when we passed, they avoided our eyes. tim, i said, did you see that? we stopped and looked back. they were several houses down, looking back at us. i gave a nod. they looked away and kept walking. that felt strange, said tim, but i dont know why. tim, i said, dont you see? that was us as girls. it took some reasoning to convince him, he didnt like being the shorter one, but when i pointed out that he was also wearing the same green cap with the flap at the back, he said damn! we should have talked to them! we probably still could, i said, and we turned around and jogged back up the hill, but when we got to the top, they were nowhere to be seen.
