south of old claypit lake 1 is old claypit lake 2. it is a bit bigger and has a nifty island in the middle which is home to a very big bird.
you cannot swim in this lake because it is filled with road water and acid rain, but the youth still do it.
surrounding this lake are some interesting devices called midge traps. they were constructed by some innovative members of the mens shed, made from wooden boxes atop a wheelie bin, and then painted an aesthetically pleasing bin colour.
every week the men's shed sends one of its Blokes to open the trap and count the midges.
while i am happy that australia is finally providing some innovations, i do worry about the effects of decreasing the midge population. remember when china declared hummingbirds an enemy of the people and paid everyone to kill them and then everyone starved to death? who knows what the midges are doing for our ecosystem. leave them alone and just close your mouth when walking.
