maylands - the asbestos shack

the most notable landmark of the yard was a derelict granny flat filled with big piles of asbestos and a caved-in roof. this is where we stored our christmas decorations. under the shack were a bunch of old pots and pans and i also found a can of motor oil. i was feeling antisocial that day and decided to write a threatening message on the weatherboards. DONT MESS WITH US.

another night when i was very upset, i used this motor oil to make a bonfire and burnt 200 undistributed copies of pelican magazine. i was mad at the editors and also two of my housemates. they had all been in confederacy against me. i was still very mad and contemplated burning the shack too, but i didn't want to cause trouble at the rent inspection so i just broke some of its windows instead.

today you'll be happy to know that i am no longer emotionally unstable. i have learned how to breathe in and out.

a few months after we had vacated, i went back to the shack to retrieve my christmas decorations. i discovered that squattors had moved into the basement and tagged it up, and when i entered the shack, they had crushed all my xmas baubles to make meth and then flooded the place with a hose.

the next time i went back, the real estate agent had boarded up the shack with corrugated iron. why not just get a bulldozer and put it out of its misery? it must be heritage listed.

the shed copped a lot of abuse.
