maylands - the haunted tower
an old weatherboard house with a run-down turret. the heritage website says it was the site of an unsolved murder in the 1970s, but there is no information about this.
my historian friend says the murder rumours are moonshine. there is no information of any murder in the house, except for a young woman who died in the 1930s of typhoid.
the story behind this death is quite interesting. maylands was toted as "the healthiest place in WA" due to the many freshwater springs underground. but by the 1930s, the sewage of many houses had tainted the water, and many people were getting sick, such as this young woman. the maylands authorities brushed over the death, not wanting to taint maylands good healthy name.
