maylands - the kayak shed
next to kirkham field was a detached unit where nobody lived. we used their veranda as a shed for our bikes and this is where i would mix the cement for my bottle wall.
when the paddle clubb dissolved, matt aitken kept some of his kayaks here. hence the name.
the landlords eventually got mad at us for “monopolizing the complex”. our landlords were known as “the debs” because they were two ladies called deb. jeff hated the debs and so did tim.
the debs didn’t like that tim had turned our car-port into his own private man cave. instead of his car, tim had several couches and a CRT telly and a ps1 where we’d sometimes play simpsons wrestling. the debs didn’t like tim’s babe calendar or his big skull-and-crossbones poster that said “the beatings will continue until morale improves”. furthermore, the debs didn’t like that tim was parking his car in the shared parking area. “you boys are monopolising the parking lot!” the debs were always accusing us of monopolizing things, when it is they, the landlords, who have the monopoly. unfair!
