maylands - the marshland
at the end of the peninsula is a stretch of salt marsh containing various samphires and succulents.
samphires are the world's most effective "sequesters of carbon". i have a good vocabulary but i don't know what this word means.
sequester (v) - to take temporary possession of someone's property until they have paid money that is owed or until they have obeyed a court order. (cambridge dictionary).
first of all, to whom does this "property" belong to? carbon is an element found in everything. our bodies have more than enough of it. when we breath in a gulp of oxygen, our lungs mix it with our excess carbon and we blow it back out into something called carbon dioxide.
our bodies clearly don't give a rats ass about this element. carbon just another thing to excrete, so what makes these dumb succulents on the maylands peninsula think we'll give them money to get our carbon back? take it marshland, we don't want it.
