maylands - the pool
one summer i bought an inflatable pool from clark rubber and all my maylands friends came round for christmas lunch and we sat in the pool and drank yellow hammer and tongs. it was one of the best days of my life but then when i was getting out, i accidentally collapsed the edge of the pool and five tonnes of water spilled out onto everyone's shoes and carried them down the yard and into the hole and several rats drowned and tim said it was the cost of pleasure.
the pool/hole incident became the inspiration for the first episode of tim's animated cartoon wheatbelt castle. we came up with the story together while driving to augusta in 2017.
in the cartoon version, it is tim's stand-in character mugget who is digging the hole. jesse comes out and warns him about digging into the precious underground helium reserves. then my stand-in, the willy nose man, collapses the pool, and to escape from drowning, mugget keeps digging then BSHH, he is blasted out of the hole by an explosion of inert gas.
i thought it was too stupid a story to be worth spending a hundred hours of time, but tim did it anyway and it is the best episode.
